The Art and Writing of Tom Moran

Cargo Cult Press

In case you’ve been living in a box and missed all of the Tiki-themed fun, new publisher Cargo Cult Press has made an impressive debut in the small presses. Their first release, the Wrath James White penned POPULATION ZERO, impressed with its intelligent, controversial story and stunning, cutting edge book design. Brian Cartwright is producing some exquisite books, and his future lineup is fantastic. I’m ecstatic to be serving as House Artist for this exciting new publisher.

Releases:

Population Zero by Wrath James White (frontispiece, interior illustrations, foil design)
Injustice by Steven Gerlach (foil design)
Remains by Michael McBride (frontispiece, interior illustrations, foil design)
Market Adjustment by Andersen Prunty (frontispiece, interior illustrations, foil design)

Insidious Publications

Insidious Publications is a rarity in the small press collectibles market in that they hand-bind all of their publications in house. Not only does this publisher offer heavily-illustrated editions from some of horrors’ top talents, but each one their books is bound in the highest quality papers and materials. I’ve been with the Insidious crew since the Insidious Reflections magazine days, and I’ve never failed to be impressed by anything they’ve produced. If you’re a collector of finely crafted books, you’d be utterly insane not to add Insidious Publications books to your library.

Releases:

Mama’s Boy by Fran Friel (cover art design)
The Problem with Mickey by Tom Moran (interior illustrations)
Marquee by John Paul Allen (cover and interior illustrations)
The Wild Hunt by James A. Moore (cover and interior illustrations)
Ever Nat by Edward Lee (cover and interior illustration)

Sideshow Press

In 2008, my wife Billie and I launched our Sideshow Press novella line. If you’re familiar with our flagship publication—Black Ink Horror—then you know what to expect. Our publications feature edgy horror fiction and copious amounts of artwork (Different Seasons has over 8 full-page illustrations). It is our goal to produce books that emphasize classically-styled illustrations and design. If you’re a fan of my artwork, I’ll be handling illustration duties on our first four publications.

Releases:

Different Seasons by Trever Palmer (cover art and interior illustrations)
Half Sick of Shadows by Graham Masterton (cover art and interior illustrations)
The Boogaloos by Douglas E. Wright (cover art and interior illustrations)

Dark Regions Press

I’m very excited to be working on a new series by Dark Regions Press. The New Voices of Horror collection features short fiction by horrors’ up-and-coming talents. The books will be offered in two formats—limited and deluxe—and three of the first four entries will be illustrated by yours truly. I recently completed work on Dark Entities by David Dunwoody and I LOVED the stories. These books will make a great addition to any library.

Dark Entities by David Dunwoody (cover art and interior illustrations)
Shades of Blood and Shadows by Angeline Hawkes (cover art and interior illustrations)
Undertow and Other Laments by Michael Kelly (cover art and interior illustrations)

Champagne Shivers/ Potter’s Field

Although this listing isn’t really for a publisher, I’ve been contributing art to these two publications almost since I began illustrating. Editor Cathy Buburuz knows how to select good horror tales and poetry, and each year I look forward to drawing for both of these fine publications (and I look even more forward to reading them when they come in!). If you enjoy classy, artful prose, make sure to grab a copy. Champagne Shivers ‘07
